Government On Monday morning said at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology about their planning to block Facebook for six hours every night from 12 am.
The government says it has yet to decide whether it will shut down social networking site Facebook for six hours every night.
In a statement on Monday, the Posts and Telecommunications Division said the final decision had not been taken regarding the matter.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Secretary Sarwar Alam told the press that the authority sought their opinion on shutting Facebook.
“The Cabinet has forwarded a letter to the to the telecommunications division and we have received a copy of it. They have sought our opinion,” he said.
The letter was received as a resolution of Deputy Commissioners’ Conference held in July last year, said the BTRC spokesperson.
Telecom Ministry sources said the highest body of the country is planning to block Facebook for six hours every night from 12am as use of this particular social networking site late at night is affecting the students and their studies.
Earlier on March 28, sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs said the government was planning to block Facebook for a few hours every night to help curb terrorism and militant activities.
Later, BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood had said they will shut down social networking site Facebook as per government order.
