Mostofa Sarwar Farooki: Tale of a Predominant Auteur

CinemaScope, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) request the pleasure of your company at CinemaScope‟s screening program “Mostofa Sarwar Farooki -Tale of a Predominant Auteur” where popular Film Director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki will be joining us on Tuesday, 1st August 2017 from 4pm to 6pm at the Auditorium, ULAB Campus A.

Throughout the whole screening event that happened in July 22nd, 27th, and 28th Cinemascope arranged “Mostofa Sarwar Farooki: Tale of a Predominant Auteur” as the topic of our next film reading program. In day – 1, “Bachelor – The Circle” and “Made in Bangladesh” – these two movies were screened. Day – 2 screened “Television” and day – 3 had a screening on “Third Person Singular Number” and “Piprabidya – Ant Story”. Each screening was followed by a discussion session with the students. The mission was to read how Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, as a filmmaker created and developed cinematic movements of his films. Cinemascope also provided a scope to learn how he runs an Avant -garde movement in Bangladesh through his films. In a nutshell, the critical analysis of his films development was considered, abstraction and deconstruction.

MOSTOFA SARWAR FAROOKI (1973) is a Bangladeshi film director, screenwriter and film producer. He is the pioneer of an avant garde filmmakers‟ movement called ‘Chabial’. His first two films, which he considers to be an educational effort, were Bachelor (2003) and Made in Bangladesh (2007). His third film Third Person Singular Number was premiered in Pusan International Film Festival. It had its European premier in International Film Festival Rotterdam. Farooki made quite a recognizable mark for him with followed Television (2012) and Ant Story (2013).

At the beginning, Dr. Sumon Rahman, Professor of the Department of Media Studies & Journalism will deliver the welcome speech. CinemaScope apprentice conduct a presentation. At approximately 4pm Director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki will give his speech. The students of ULAB will be given a Q/A session with the director and then the event will end with vote of thanks from Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Advisor of Cinemascope.
