My challenge is to create a better collection than the previous ones: Mona Shroff

1) When did you first discover that you wanted to be a jewellery designer?

My challenge is to create a better collection than the previous ones: Mona Shroff

First Discovery – I am a Textile Designer by profession, and worked for Garden Silk till I came to Hongkong and started designing for Selfridges, Gallerie LaFayette , and 28 Department stores in UAE for 18 years. I was designing Jewellery, Handbags, Hair  Accessories, Sunglasses, Fashion belts and Jewellery Watches till I started my own brand in 2011.

2) How did you describe your drsigns?

Design Description – My designs are very  Edgy , Classic  and Timeless . All the pieces are Handmade which is the USP of my brand. I design Statement pieces as the slogan for my brand is – LESS IS MORE !

3) What are your favourite materials & colors to work with?

Favourite Materials & Colours for Design: My jewellery is made with Semi precious stones from Madagascar and Brazil , as my factory is in Brazil. The Base metal of my jewellery is Brass and they are 18-22k Gold plated. I use Vibrant colours and retain their natural shapes , which gives a 3D effect and makes every piece  different.

4) How did your knowledge of color theory change the way you think about design?

Knowledge of Colour Theory: As a textile designer , we were taught and trained to create  different combinations for our designs , and that helped me in my Jewellery designing. Colours play a very important role , as it adds elegance, vibrancy and completes the look  giving it a chic touch .

5) What is your biggest inspiration?

My Inspiration  – My Inspiration and challenge is to create a better collection than the previous ones. I like to integrate different cultures and styles of jewellery making and create my Fusion version. Versatility is my forte and that is why every collection is unique and different.

My jewellery was worn at the Oscars 2016 and Grammys 2017 Red Carpet events. Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities wear my jewellery for their Red carpet events and magazine photo shoots.

6) What is the biggest risk you ever took with a design?

Biggest Risk & New Designs : I am Not a Risk taker, as I don’t make One piece for trial. To bring down the cost I have to make a few pieces , therefore a lot of inventory is involved , as these pieces have to be appreciated and bought by consumers.

I am designing my new collection which is based on the  Mediterranean look. The colours and theme have the Mediterranean touch too. I am making this collection with a 3D effect, retaining the edgy and unique shapes of semi precious stones.
