Fitness was in my blood: Fitness coach Suzanna Helena
1. What do you do for a living?
I’m a personal trainer and fitness coach based in Limassol Cyprus.
2. How would you describe your work?
I help people achieve their health and fitness goals by doing my best to change their perspective on exercise and healthy eating, motivating and educating them, and building relationships strong enough to allow me to navigate each of them to better fitness and health.
3. What does a typical fitness program look like?
I use constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements, to make my programs challenging but approachable. It’s a highly effective approach to exercise designed to have maximum results in a short amount of time. The diversity works muscles in different ways for a full body workout that will get fast results.
4. How did you get started?
Having a huge passion for gymnastics as a child, fitness was in my blood. After a short break when life’s’ pressures took over, I returned to the gym and took my first CrossFit class. I was immediately taken. Soon enough, passion took over and I made the undeniably scary decision to quit the corporate world and plunge into a new career. Taking the leap required determination to commit to the challenge of turning my passion into a sustainable business. I invested in myself with training programs, learning every day and started mapping out what my service delivery would look like.
5. Tell us a little bit about the book you wrote?
My book is called the “The Fit Deal” and the aim is to simplify the way to a fit lifestyle. It was inspired by my own life’s experiences and struggles to fit a fitness regime into my busy schedule, so “The Fit Deal” was born in hope that I can inspire and motivate people to make fitness a part of their lives. To help people change their perspective on all the excuses they come up with.
6. What do you like about your work?
I don’t like…I love adding value to people’s lives and watching the transformations unfold.
7. What do you dislike?
Would it sound weird if I said nothing!
8. What is most challenging about your work?
The most challenging part of my job is to make people understand that fitness is not a seasonal hobby, it’s a lifestyle.
9. What is most rewarding?
Having a positive impact on the lives of others is my ultimate reward.
10. How do you incorporate balance into your life?
Finding balance is understanding what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle. It shouldn’t be a punishment or a chore. You shouldn’t have to deprive yourself of small pleasures. I incorporate good nutrition with occasional treats, I’m consistent with my exercise but also take time to rest and switch off. Finding that balance is sure to create a successful lifestyle!
11. Where do you get your motivation and inspiration?
I’m motivated by my clients, I feel I have to look the part for them, to motivate them. My inspiration are my results. My own as well as my clients. Once you start to understand how healthy feels, what being strong feels like, what your body is capable of, how great you can look, you never want to go back.
12. What advice would you give someone just getting started?
I would advise them to firstly find something they enjoy doing. There are hundreds of types of exercise, find one that suits you. Secondly, be patient and be consistent. It might take a little time but the results will come and the lifestyle will become normality. Last but not least, commit to your success!
