The Beautiful Art by Arianne Zager
Artist and fashion designer Arianne Zager took the world by storm with her fashion film showcasing her new collection on International Digital Fashion Week (IDFW). Her innovative film and her beautiful creations brilliantly light up the world in a gorgeous array of wonder. To discover what inspires her and find out the story behind her collection, we sat down with Arianne in an interview.
Q: Tell us about your brand. What is the story behind your brand?
A: I am always an artist first and foremost so if I am a brand it just circulates around my view of visual beauty. I like to create what I see behind my eyes, and this is often grand obscure pieces that serve only art for art’s sake.
Q: What do you like most about being a designer? What are some of your favorite achievements?
A: I love having the ability to create tangible pieces. A piece of me just for you. I love seeing people light up when they slip into one of my works. The connection of feeling what is supposed to be…through another individual is special. When I show my work listening to the breathing in the room is also incredibly important for me. The truth lies in the first view and breath.
I am proud of each step as a designer mostly because I am still here…. that alone is massive! I could say the publications like Vogue and Citizen K or showing at NYFW are my most treasured boasts, but really it’s just watching what my mind came up with becoming real.
Q: Tell us about your new collection. What inspired this collection?
A: I have been weaving wire for a while. I also have been an apparel designer by trade for a WHILE now. A few years ago, I decided to weave complete gowns from a single strand of wire. I just vibed the entire silhouette and let the form free flow through me. When I was done it fit my muse like a glove. The intuition ran me and now I am just running with it and letting these sculptural pieces emerge.
Q: On October 5th, 2022, your video of your new collection premiered on IDFW. What do you hope viewers take away from watching your video?
A: I hope the viewers see the obscure vision of beauty that we all pick up on subconsciously. That feeling strange things and being curious is not only alright but it’s INCREDIBLE. You can turn unconventional raw beauty over into your lap and sit with it, uncomfortably but to always remember the gold that truly glitters, bubbles from within.
Q: What is your favorite part about participating in IDFW?
A: Collaborating with my community in Minneapolis. In particular the director and co-EVERYTHING in this file Adrian Wilson. Working with him was incredible because it felt like he completely understood what I needed him to. He then took the vision and made it real on film. To edit it down in a way that you can understand in just 5 minutes what we needed you to see.
